Thinking about publishing a chapbook next year?
We just posted the submission guidelines for our upcoming 2023 chapbook series:
https://redogrereview.submittable.com/submit/245157/chapbooks-speculative-experimental-poetry
We're looking for speculative and experimental poetry, prose poetry, and hybrid forms.
We are thrilled to say that the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers Association has approved us for a grant to fund a project we've wanted to do for some time, a series of single-author chapbooks.
More details on the way as we firm up our planning over the next several weeks.
Ahead of time, if you have an idea for a chapbook, or know someone who might be interested, it's not a bad idea to make a note to keep us in mind.
This mug features our banner image, a Gustave Doré illustration from an 1862 French version of the Puss in Boots fairytale. Specifically, the scene where the cat gets into a battle of wits with an ogre sorcerer.

Proceeds will be used fund our 2023 projects.
While we're on vacation this month, now is also the perfect time to send along a submission.
It's usually better to send submissions well in advance. We like having plenty of time for reviews and edits.
Our Submittable:
Our December issue is now live!
https://ogre.red/issues/2022-12/2022-12-introduction/
In this issue, we went for a balance between conversational, everyday language presentations and some fairly complex and abstract material, just to keep things interesting.
We are delighted to nominate Prof. Maud Lavin (School of the Art Institute of Chicago) for this year's Pushcart Prize!
Read - and listen to a reading of - "Clumsy Poem" in our July issue:
https://ogre.red/issues/2022-07/2022-07-lavin-maud/
And "Topology" in our November issue:
A cleaned up and refined version of the Node.js script I posted last week to import posts from a Twitter archive file:
https://github.com/mattbullen/migrate-tweets-to-mastodon
You're welcome to adapt this for your own use, although you'll probably need to tweak parts of it to fit your preferences.
And please be sure to test it thoroughly before letting it rip on a full archive file. 😀
Since we're new on Mastodon, I thought it might be helpful to post some of our submission guidelines and editorial review standards.
These aren't hard rules, but pieces that are closer to following them tend to have better chances.

It's a wrap! The December issue is now full.
And that's it for 2022 - we're taking December off for the holidays.
Our next issue is set for February 2023. Want to get ahead of the game? Submit here:
https://redogrereview.submittable.com/submit
It's actually better if you do submit well in advance, since we like having plenty of lead time to review subs.
Each issue is organized, loosely, around a set of common themes. It takes time to receive enough pieces to tease those out in the selections.
Good points. When I was migrating our account over from Twitter, it was eye-opening to see how low the signal to noise ratio really was between total tweet activity v. substantive tweets / total followers v. ones who actively engaged with the account / etc.
A lot of people don't like change or new things, anyway, so there's bound to be muttering and grumbling from some part of the user base at the thought of changing to a new platform.
Apologies if you noticed a blast of posts imported from Twitter - I put together a script to pull in some posts to get our account's feed started.
If you're familiar with Node.js scripting, you're welcome to adapt the script for your own use:
https://github.com/mattbullen/migrate-tweets-to-mastodon
Caveat, though, I wrote it over my lunch hour today.
While it works, it could probably use some polishing and refining ... and it will need some adapting for other accounts. 😀

Updated cover art for the print anthology of our first year of issues. Might tweak this a few more times, but this is the idea.
The e-book version will still use the original cover art featuring our journal mascot, the toothy grinning ogre creature.
